On April 25-26, 2017, Karen Gharajyan, the head of physical technical examinations and chemical expertises department of National Bureau of Expertises (NBE) of the Republic of Armenia, was posted to the capital of the Republic of Poland, Warsaw, to participate in a two-day seminar called "Drugs" organized by the European Union within the framework of the "Eastern Partnership", aimed at developing EU integration ties with six countries of the former USSR, including Armenia.

Representatives of Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova and Georgia also took part in the seminar.

The main priority of the seminar was to familiarize its participants with the methods used in the Republic of Poland to combat illicit trafficking in drugs, psychotropic drugs and their precursors. An important place in the seminar was also given to the exchange of experience accumulated by participants in a seminar on countering the spread of drugs and possible cooperation in the framework of cooperation with the countries of the Eastern Partnership.

The opening speech was made by the head of the Polish Office for Registration of Medicinal Products, Medical Devices and Biocidal Products Mr. Marcin Kolakovsky Then, representatives of the Central Investigation Bureau of the Police of the Republic of Poland, Mr. Arthur Klein and Mrs. Ivona Perkovska, as well as representatives of The Central Bureau of Investigation of the National Police Headquarters Mr. Michal Aleksandrovich and the Bureau of International Cooperation of the same  headquarters  Mr. Dariusz Jal.

During the seminar, in a free format, the participants exchanged views on methods of combating illicit drug trafficking, psychotropic drugs and their precursors. Issues related to modern methods of detecting clandestine laboratories for the production of narcotic drugs of the amphetamine group and so-called "designer" drugs were also touched upon.

The organizers of the event emphasized that holding a seminar on the topic of this direction within the framework of the Eastern Partnership project will be permanent.

And in this regard, at the end of the seminar, a number of methodological issues related to ongoing research was discussed by the participants of the seminar that will allow a deeper understanding of the actual situation of illicit drug trafficking, psychotropic drugs and their precursors and methods of combating this evil in the countries involved in the project "Eastern Partnership".

Karen Gharajyan, the head of physical technical examinations and chemical expertises department of NBE delivered a speech presenting the basic goals and tasks to be solved by our Bureau. At the same time, it was noted about the importance of having a huge scientific potential, allowing to consider the prospect of holding similar seminars. Besides, during the subsequent seminars our representative expressed his readiness to elaborate on the descriptions of modern methods and the latest equipment used in conducting forensic chemical studies, primarily drugs, which was accepted with understanding by the participants and the Polish organizers of the seminar.
