NBE Representative Participated in FDSD 2015 PT Final Meeting in Dresden, Germany, April 13-15, 2016

As was previously announced, the Proficiency Test (PT) on Forensic Determination of Shooting Distance (FDSD) of 2015 was held within the framework of the ENFSI (European Network of Forensic Science Institutes) Expert Working Group “Firearms/GRS” and EU financial support. 49 laboratories from 25 different countries participated in the project. The Firearms Expertises Department (Forensic Ballistics) of the National Bureau of Expertises participated from the Republic of Armenia.

The forensic scientists from the 14 laboratories (11 different countries) which produced the best results among the 49 participating laboratories were invited to take part in the Final Meeting of the Proficiency Test on Forensic Determination of Shooting Distance of 2015 in Dresden, Germany, April 13-15, 2016. Ashot Gasparyan, the forensic ballistics expert of NBE Firearm Expertises Department, attended the meeting.  Dr. Martin Barth wished the participants new scientific and technological achievements in his welcoming speech on behalf of Federal Criminal Police Office (Bundeskriminalamt) of Wiesbaden. He continued to present the comprehensive analysis of the activities carried out within the framework of CS 2014, FDSD 2015 and CS 2015 projects, the criteria for performance evaluation and the innovative equipment for preparation of samples, drawing the participants’ attention to the possibility of approximate evaluation of the results due to possible technical error.

The participants further visited QuoData forensic laboratory in Dresden where the innovative equipment, the latest technologies and procedures and different chemographical analyses were demonstrated. Ashot Gasparyan, the forensic ballistics expert of NBE Firearm Expertises Department, held discussions and brainstorming sessions on scientific research topics of mutual interest with the representatives of partner organizations at the Final Meeting.

Concluding the meeting, the participants discussed issues related to further scientific research within the framework of the FDSD project, as well as the optimal conditions for acquisition and exploitation of the required equipment.
