Participation in the 21th ENFSI Drugs Working Group Annual Meeting

From May 5 to 8, 2015 Hayk Kasparyan, Head of Drugs, Psychoactive Substances and Poisons Examinations Unit of Physical Technical Examinations and Chemical Expertises Department, participated in ENFSI Drugs Working Group 21st Annual Meeting, which took place in Dublin Castle, Ireland.

The conference was opened by the Minister of Health of Ireland Leo Varadkar. On the same day were discussed the experiences of legal regulations of drugs in Ireland, the interlaboratory cooperation on new psychoactive substances in Sweden, etc. During the conference  were also presented the reports of Quality Assurance, Profiling, Quantitative Sampling, Education and Training, Communication, Hypergeometric Ad-hoc Subcommitees, results of Proficiency Test and  was discussed proposal of new Subcommittee- Chemometric.

The following workshops were held on the second day: “Experiences with generic law”, “Do we need new technologies for forensic drug analysis?” and “Is accreditation limiting the analytical strategy?”.

In his turn Hayk Kasparyan made an oral presentation on title “The Statistics of Drugs, Psychoactive Substances and their Precursors Detection from 2012 to 2014 in the Republic of Armenia”, which was of great interest among audience.

The following workshop was held on the third day: “Sampling of Illicit Drugs for Quantitative Analysis” as well as was presented a best practice manual (BPM)-guideline on the same title.

At the end of the meeting Hayk Kasparyan was given a certificate of attendance in ENFSI Drugs Working Group 21st Annual Meeting by DWG vice chair, doctor Irene Breum Müller.

At the same time H.Kasparyan reinforced the acquired connections and established new ones  including cooperation agreements with the European Heads of leading forensic institutes, experts and scientific staff.
