The Main functions of the National Bureau of Expertises

According to the Government decision of the Republic of Armenia adopted on the 22nd of July, 2004 about the foundation of  “The National Bureau of Expertises” state non-profit organization of the RA National Academy of Sciences and the approval of its organization charter  N 1127-N, including the decision of June 23, 2005 N 867-N about making additions and changes in them and the decision of June 11, 2009 N 867-N about making new additions and establishing a scientific research center of applied problems of criminology the main functions of the organization are the following;

1. The development, testing and investment of modern scientific experimental methods, scientific and technical resources in the field of expertises designated by criminal prosecution and  justice administration bodies;

2. Organizing  and  performing of scientific practical, scientific research, scientific experimental and testing actions aim at ensuring and improving forensic expertises upon the demand of  law enforcement bodies;

3. The education and training of those competent bodies who have the responsibility to obtain  initial data and who are authorized  to designate  expertises;

4. The systematization of the existing research methodology, the processing of new methods, their testing and guarantee for use with the aim of ensuring the methodological unity of forensic expert studies;

5. The training and improvement of specialists in the field of expertises, as well as confirmation of their qualification as prescribed by  law of the Republic of Armenia;

6. The study of  causes and conditions that have facilitated the commission of the crime, scientific development of concrete measures aimed at crime prevention and preparation of appropriate proposals related to the introduction of these measures for the law enforcement bodies;

7. The organization and implementation of criminological expertises of  projects of  legal acts upon the decision of  law-making  authorities;

8. The performance  of criminological research of the documents submitted by state administration and local self-government bodies, physical persons and legal entities;

9. The implementation of criminological studies of programs and publications being prepared (or prepared) by the mass media;

10. The organization of  the   surveys, elaborations and analyses in the fields of statistics, economics, psychology, political, sociological and other social sciences necessary for the implementation of criminological studies.
