The Main functions of the National Bureau of Expertises

According to the Government decision of the Republic of Armenia adopted on the 22nd of July 2004 about the foundation of ‘’The National Bureau of Expertises state non-profit organization of the RA National Academy of Sciences and the approval of its organization chart‘’ N 1127-N, including the decision of June 23 2005 N 867-N about making additions and changes in them and the decision of June 11 2009 N 867-N about making new additions and establishing a scientific research center of applied problems of criminology the main functions of the organization are as follows:

  1. a) The development, testing and investment of modern scientific experimental methods, scientific and technical resources in the field of expertises designated by law enforcement agencies and courts;
  2. b) Performing forensic expertises ordered by competent bodies (law enforcement agencies and courts) including necessary scientific practical, scientific research, scientific experimental, testing actions;
  3. c) The education and training of workers of the competent authorities responsible for the acquisition of initial data for expertises and authorized to designate expertises;
  4. d) The systematization of the existing research methodology, the elaboration of new methods, their testing and guarantee for use with the aim of ensuring the methodological unity of forensic expert studies;
  5. e) The training and improvement of specialists in the field of expertises, as well as confirmation of their qualification through the order defined by the statute of the Republic of Armenia;
  6. f) The study of causes and conditions that result in the origination of culpability, scientific development of concrete measures aimed at crime prevention and preparation of appropriate proposals in connection with the introduction of these measures for the competent authorities;
  7. g) The organization and implementation of criminological expertises of legal acts projects by the decision of authorities with law-making power;
  8. h) The implementation of criminological research of the documents submitted by state governing and local self-governing bodies, legal and individual entities;
  9. i) The implementation of criminological studies of programs and publications being prepared by the mass media;
  10. j) The organization of the surveys, elaborations and analysis in the field of sociology, economics, psychology, political science and other social sciences necessary for the implementation of criminological studies.
